As the owner and designer at New Leaf Design. I am passionate about garden and landscape design and hugely enjoy the variety of opportunities and challenges that come from working on a broad range of projects for private, commercial and charitable clients.
I studied Garden Design on the 2 year full-time HND course at Merrist Wood College, Guildford, graduating with distinction in 2007, and winning the Faculty of Land Management Graduate of the Year Award. Later that year my design for a conceptual garden was selected for exhibition at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The garden, named Forest², won an RHS Gold Medal and was praised by critics and show visitors alike.
Since then I have worked on projects public and private, large and small, from a £7,500 courtyard to a challenging £750,000 country garden in rural Kent, where I was privileged to design such features as a new avenue of trees and a turf amphitheatre, commission sculptures to my own specification, create a grand entrance area to the main house with 250m2 of new perennial planting in massive split-level cor-ten beds, and design a woodland garden with 500m2 of beautiful shade tolerant plants and 30 new native trees, planted to blend sympathetically with the existing woodland surroundings.
Having started out part-time alongside my previous career of front-line homelessness work, I now design full-time, enjoying the challenges, variety and freedom that running my own business brings. As a Surrey garden designer based in Dorking, I currently design gardens and landscape projects across the South-East, although I will consider interesting projects further afield. I am interested in projects large and small for clients who have a love and appreciation of beautiful, long-lasting gardens which express a timeless elegance, rather than reflecting the whims of fashion. Although I came to garden design initially through a love of plants, I now enjoy the extensive knowledge of materials and construction methods that make a fully-rounded garden designer.
